Thanks to ongoing support by the City of Lancaster, Dream Ride Projects announces the addition of a true ‘Bicycling Hub,’ now housed in the public access area on the main level of the historic Southern Market Center building in downtown Lancaster, PA. The space once housed the Southern Market Visitor’s Center and The Historic Lancaster Walking Tour (now located at the Lancaster Visitor’s Center at Penn Square).
“This public space is both visible and accessible, allowing us to provide an informational ‘bicycling hub’ for the bicycling community, while more effectively promoting the mission and related projects, initiatives and activities of Dream Ride Projects,” says DRP’s founder and executive director, Mike Ridgeway.
The ‘hub’ offers information regarding bicycling activities, tour routes, advocacy efforts, and educational programs, as well as a library of the latest bicycling publications. “We are providing a real opportunity for bicycling to grow in the area; to unite and strengthen the local bicycling community and culture; and to improve the image bicycling has among our youth, while promoting ways to improve safety concerns among the 60% of adults surveyed who state they would bicycle more if our local roadways were safer,” adds Ridgeway.
Through its Air Quality Project, Dream Ride Projects is spearheading efforts to transform Lancaster city and county into a League of American Bicyclists recognized ‘Bicycle Friendly Community.’ A League recognized ‘Bronze’ level Bicycle Friendly Business, DRP hopes to advance its own designation to ‘Silver’ in 2014 through their relationship with the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce & Industry, which earned ‘Honorable Mention’ Bicycle Friendly Business in 2012.
Dream Ride Projects will maintain its normal operating hours (9:00am – 5:00pm, M-F), and by appointment, and is recruiting volunteers to assist with providing information to the public from its new ‘hub’ space. The new space will also be open during ALL First Friday events in the city of Lancaster, beginning Friday, January 3, 2014.
